Workshop Summary
Overview & Objectives
The participant will be able to align the technology tools available for
online delivery with the gaps in performance or professional
development. The particpant will develop strategies for the creation of online courses to maximize the indtructional experience.
Outline
The participants will experience a series of online tools and relate
each tool to how it maximizes instruction and communications. 45
minutes The participants will explore a series of online courses (facilitated and self paced) to identify exemplars. 45 Minutes The particpants will build instructional experiences using the tool sets. 1 hour The particpants will identify key issues that will be used to continue the conversation after NECC.
V-NECC-Virtually Extending NECC Over Time and Place
The participants in the workshop and others will be able to use the
tools demonstrated in the workshop to extend the conversation. These
tools will include webinar, blogs, video email, threaded discussion and
electronic surveys.
Ubiquitous Internet Access
A large number of the tools that will be highlighted in the workshop are
designed to be used on both higgh speed and modem connections. The
intent is to show how all learners can participate in online
instruction.
Student Voices
The emerging online tools help insure that online education can break
the broadcast model of distance learning. The new models will allow
students to create online instruction for themselves and for the
development of structured programs to develop student leaders.
Presenter Background & Qualifications
Stan Silverman: Director of Technology Based Learning , Professor of
Education and Director of the Educational Enterprise Zone and Chair of
the Online program at the New York Institute of Technology. Has
presented a numerous international and national conferences including
NECC. He has taught online for over 20 years. Rose Tirotta:
Director of Distributed Learning at NYIT. Developed the Nassau BOCES
online program and was instrumental in the development of the Online
Academy for NYS.
